The End (of Summer)

This time of year always gives me a melancholy feeling.

Summer happens to be one of my favorite seasons, despite the heat and the bugs. Far back as my childhood, Summer was more than a season-it was a feeling of freedom, the shackles of the past being lifted and a brief time to stretch before the school year started and those shackles went back on again.

That feeling got tempered as I entered adulthood. Once school stopped being a thing, summer days just became normal days. But the feeling of freedom I associated with it never left me. I would take time off of work to go on vacations in the summer, mostly to comic book and anime conventions, and upon returning, I would get the feeling of the shackles coming back on.

As I get older and my body becomes less able to do things, I begin to look back to those days as a kid, when summer was a thing to look forward to. I miss those summer days, hanging with friends, going to movies and such. They weren’t as lovely as memory makes them, but that’s nostalgia for you. I hope those who read this know what I am talking about.

Till next time, and enjoy whatever is left of your summer!
