What foods would you like to make?
When I was young and full of spunk, I had a love of cooking.
That isn’t to say I still don’t cook, but way back when, I was more… experimental with my recipes. I would add extra ingredients to everyday dishes, like putting cooked shrimp and scallops into a tuna casserole, or trying my hand and making homemade pan bread (which didn’t go as well as I had hoped, but that’s another story)
The zenith of my culinary experimentation was also my penultimate failure: making a Peking Duck. I had gotten the ingredients together- hoisin sauce and Asian spices for the Peking sauce, white pepper for seasoning- I couldn’t get the stuff to make the lil pancake things but I was optimistic.
The day to make it came. I followed the instructions, mixed the sauce ingredients, cooked it all for the intended time and to the correct heat setting. I did it all right… and I failed. The duck was way undercooked! The skin was still fatty and gooey when it was supposed to be crispy, the meat was meh, it was embarrassing! If I were cooking for more than two people (my dad and me) it would be a humiliation.
…so, in summation, I would love to do a Peking Duck and do it right this time!
Till next time!
